Afghan or Blanket? Which do you prefer?

Afghan or Blanket?  It is always hard to decide which word to use when describing my yarn goods.  When I think blanket I get the impression of a baby or child.  When I think afghan, I think adult.  There really is no difference between the two.  Just the impression it leaves in your mind.

Since last Sunday was my last day at the Fulton Street Artisians Market for this summer I decided today to photograph some of the afghans/blankets I wanted to list in my Etsy shop.  Taking good pictures is not my cup of tea let me tell you.  I have no understanding of light or depth perception.  I tried - thats about all I can do.  Take a look for yourself:

One picture is sideways, one is upside down.  How do you rotate?  Can you rotate?  I think I will stick with crochet and hopefully the finished products will speak louder than the pictures.

  1. No matter how you take pictures of these, they are beautiful! A larger and heavier piece, I call a blanket and a smaller size I call an afghan and a baby blanket is a baby blanket. love Carol

  5. Love your afghans! I say anything knitted or crocheted is an afghan...
Everything else is just a blanket. :)

  9. I love love love the first one! The colors are fantastic! I'm a fan of the word afghan largely because it makes me think "crocheted blanket" I feel like "blanket" makes me think fabric!

  10. I usually refer to my creations as blankets. I rarely use the word afghan. I really like the first two blankets. Lovely color schemes!

  12. Hi Teresa, All are gorgeous but I love the colours in the first one best. I would call them blankets because afghan sounds so retro.

  14. To me, an afghan is knitted, a blanket is for a child or goes on a bed. A throw is smaller and used on a sofa or chair. No matter the name, yours is lovely. :D Thanks for sharing on BeColorful this week.
